Arabic Jazz

Arabic Jazz emerged in the mid-20th century as musicians in the Arab world began to blend traditional Middle Eastern melodies with the improvisational spirit of jazz, presumably because just one genre wasn’t enough. It typically features intricate rhythms, modal scales, and instruments like the oud and qanun which make you wonder if a musical genius really can juggle five things at once. This genre has caused quite the kerfuffle, demonstrating that cultures can mix like a good cocktail, and sometimes you might just end up with something utterly delightful – or a bit too spicy.
