American Punk

American punk music burst onto the scene in the mid-1970s, primarily out of New York and Los Angeles, as a raucous response to the overblown rock sounds of the time; think of it as rock's teenage tantrum, complete with ripped jeans and a decidedly 'don’t care' attitude. Characterised by its short songs, raw energy, and a distinct penchant for politically charged lyrics, it sounds like a cacophony of guitars played by someone who forgot to turn down the volume before their temper exploded. This genre not only redefined musical rebellion but also gave rise to a culture where mohawks and DIY ethics became the norm, proving that you could make a racket and a statement without needing a PhD in composition.
