Alternative Dance

Alternative dance music emerged in the late 1980s in the UK, when partygoers decided that shuffling about in a slightly confused manner was a perfectly acceptable form of self-expression. It combines elements of rock, dance, and electronic music, making it sound like the soundtrack to a slightly uncomfortable rave in a trendy art gallery, complete with beats you can dance to and lyrics that might just make you ponder your existence.

Its cultural impact is notable, as it turned many a clueless clubber into a philosophising disco poet, whilst propelling underground artists into the limelight at the speed of a dodgy glowing stick.
