Joseph Silverstein

Joseph Silverstein was an American classical violinist and conductor born in Detroit in 1932 who began his professional career in the mid-20th century and served long-term as concertmaster before taking on music-director roles with major American orchestras. Known for a direct, technically assured approach to concerto and orchestral repertoire, his later career increasingly focused on conducting and music direction and he contributed to postwar American orchestral practice while mentoring younger musicians.
