Sir Edward Cuthbert Bairstow

Sir Edward Cuthbert Bairstow was an English organist and composer, born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1874, who made his career as a church musician and cathedral organist, serving at York Minster from 1913 until his death in 1946. Rooted in the Anglican choral tradition, his music is characterised by contrapuntal writing, expressive choral textures and substantial organ accompaniment, and his anthems and service settings continue to be performed within the English church repertoire.
