Väinö Raitio

Väinö Raitio was a Finnish composer born in 1891 who emerged in the early 20th century and worked mainly in orchestral and piano music within the classical tradition. Associated with early Finnish modernism, his music drew on impressionistic colour and unconventional harmony and orchestration for its time, and his later output reflected a retreat to more conventional forms as modernist tastes waned in Finland.
