Pierre Sancan was a French composer, pianist, conductor and teacher born in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1916 who trained and worked within the Paris conservatoire system and was active from the mid-20th century in the classical music field. His music combined impressionistic colour, lyrical melody and virtuosic piano writing within mid-20th-century French classical traditions, and his output includes concert works and pedagogical pieces widely used in French piano teaching.
