Carl Loewe

Carl Loewe was a German composer, tenor and conductor born in Löbejün in 1796 whose 19th-century career was chiefly devoted to vocal music, especially songs and ballads. His output centred on songs and ballads for voice and piano, often setting German Romantic poetry with a dramatic narrative emphasis, and he also composed oratorios, incidental music and chamber works that formed part of the German Lied and ballad repertoire of the period.
