Marc Blitzstein

Marc Blitzstein was an American composer, librettist and lyricist born in Philadelphia in 1905 who began his career in the late 1920s and 1930s and worked across musical theatre, opera and art song. His work combined elements of classical composition, jazz and cabaret with direct, socially conscious narratives and theatrical techniques associated with political theatre, producing notable politically charged stage works including The Cradle Will Rock.
