Miya Masaoka is a Japanese American composer, sound artist and koto player who emerged in the late 20th century and works primarily in contemporary classical, experimental and improvised music. Her practice combines extended techniques on the koto with electronics, field recordings and spatialisation, spanning solo performance, chamber works, sound installations and collaborative interdisciplinary projects that engage with acoustic–electronic hybridisation and cultural memory.
