Václav Pichl was a Bohemian violinist, composer and Kapellmeister of the Classical era who was born in 1741 and was active from the mid-18th century in Vienna and at various central European courts. His output, rooted in the galant and early Classical styles, comprises chamber works, concertos and sacred music characterised by clear textures, elegant melodic lines and idiomatic writing for the violin, reflecting the significant presence of Bohemian musicians within courtly musical life in central Europe.
