James Brown

James Joseph Brown (3 May 1933 – 25 December 2006) was an American singer, songwriter, musician, producer and bandleader known for his work in rhythm and blues, soul and funk. Born in Barnwell County, South Carolina and raised in Augusta, Georgia, he recorded and performed from the 1950s through the 2000s, and his recordings and stage work contributed to the development of funk.
