Sven-Åke Johansson's Quintet is a free jazz and free improvisation ensemble formed by Swedish percussionist Sven-Åke Johansson within the European avant-garde jazz scene, originating in Sweden and conceived as a vehicle for his compositions and collective improvisation. The group's work blends loose composed frameworks with extended techniques, noise textures and rhythmic experimentation, reflecting Johansson's focus on percussion-based exploration and the broader evolution of European free improvisation from the late 20th century onwards.
