Agathe Backer-Grøndahl

Agathe Backer-Grøndahl was a Norwegian pianist and composer born in Holmestrand in 1847 who began her public career in the 1860s and worked within the Romantic classical tradition. Her output comprised songs and piano pieces that combine Romantic harmonic language with elements of Norwegian folk melody, and in later years she focused on teaching and composing for salon and concert use, contributing to the shaping of Norway's musical culture.
