Mamuthones

Mamuthones are a traditional folk performance ensemble from Mamoiada in Sardinia, Italy, whose masked, costumed procession is associated with the island's Carnival and whose origins trace back centuries in pastoral and seasonal rites. Their musical style is centred on deep percussive rhythms produced by large cowbells and wooden clappers, combined with chant and disciplined procession, and the performance has evolved through local transmission and festival practice to serve as a distinctive element of Sardinian cultural expression.
