Freda Charcilia Payne (born 19 September 1942 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American singer and actress whose work spans pop, R&B, soul and jazz. She is best known for the 1970 single "Band of Gold" and for recording for the Invictus label, and has also appeared in stage and television productions.
