Giovanni Legrenzi was an Italian Baroque composer and organist born in Clusone in 1626 who developed his career in northern Italy and held senior posts in Venice during the latter part of the 17th century. His wide output of operas, sacred music and instrumental pieces reflects the Venetian Baroque idiom, with expressive vocal writing, concertato textures and increasingly prominent instrumental colour that contributed to the region's musical practices.
