Machito

Machito was a Cuban-born bandleader who formed his orchestra in New York City in the 1940s and worked in Afro-Cuban music, mambo and Latin jazz. His music fused traditional Cuban rhythms and percussion with jazz arrangements and big-band instrumentation, contributing to the development of Afro-Cuban jazz and the integration of Cuban rhythmic practices into the New York jazz scene.
