Ravi Shankar

Ravi Shankar was an Indian sitar player born in Varanasi who began his performing career in the 1920s and specialised in Hindustani classical music. His work was rooted in raga and tala traditions, he collaborated with Western musicians during the 1960s and composed for film and orchestral settings, contributing to cross-cultural exchange in music.
