Steven Stucky was an American composer of contemporary classical music, born in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1949 who began his professional career in the 1970s composing orchestral and chamber works. His music is characterised by clear forms, colourful orchestration and an engagement with both modernist techniques and lyrical gestures, and across his career he produced symphonies, concertos, choral pieces and chamber music while also teaching composition at American universities.
