Sergiu Comissiona was a Romanian-born conductor and violinist born in Bucharest in 1928 who began his career in Romania before emigrating to Israel and subsequently holding conducting posts in Europe and North America, specialising in orchestral and symphonic repertoire. His repertoire encompassed classical, Romantic and twentieth-century works, with programming that frequently included lesser-known pieces and contemporary compositions while emphasising clear structural pacing and orchestral colour.
