Pauline Viardot
Pauline Viardot was a French mezzo-soprano and composer born in Paris in 1821 who began her public career in the 1840s and was primarily associated with opera and art song. She combined operatic technique with a strong interest in art song and salon repertoire, composed numerous vocal works and a few stage pieces, and was active in 19th-century European musical salons and vocal pedagogy.
