Marbrianus de Orto

Marbrianus de Orto was a Netherlandish Renaissance composer active in the late 15th and early 16th centuries who served in the papal chapel in Rome and later worked in Italian courts, composing both sacred and secular polyphony. He wrote masses, motets and chansons in the Franco-Flemish polyphonic tradition, employing cantus firmus and emerging imitative techniques, and was part of the transmission of northern polyphonic practices into Italian musical centres.
