Tomaso Antonio Vitali was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist, born in Modena around 1663 and active in the late 17th and early 18th centuries in court and church music circles. His surviving output comprises violin sonatas, chamber and sacred works, and he is associated with a chaconne in G minor of disputed attribution that has been adapted in later performance traditions, illustrating how Baroque idioms were transformed by subsequent musicians.
