Marc Copland is an American jazz pianist and composer who began his career as an alto saxophonist in the 1970s before switching to piano and emerging from the New York jazz scene. His piano style emphasises impressionistic harmonies, subtle rhythmic displacement and inventive re-harmonisations of standards, and his career evolved from saxophonist-led ensembles to a focus on piano trios and solo recordings, contributing to contemporary approaches to jazz harmony and improvisation.
