Robert Planquette
Robert Planquette was a French composer of operettas and songs, born in 1848 and active from the 1870s within the light-opera scene. His work exemplified the French operetta tradition with lilting melodies, accessible orchestration and theatrical pacing, and his 1877 operetta Les cloches de Corneville was staged in both France and England, influencing late-19th-century musical theatre exchanges.
