Turtle Island String Quartet are an American string quartet formed in San Francisco in 1985 that blends classical chamber instrumentation with jazz and contemporary genres. They incorporate improvisation and arrangements of jazz, bluegrass, rock and world-music material, commissioning new works and exploring cross-genre approaches that broaden the string-quartet repertoire.
