Josef Lanner

Josef Lanner was an Austrian dance-music composer and conductor from Vienna who began his career in the early 19th century, forming a dance orchestra and composing primarily in the waltz and Ländler traditions. He refined the structure and orchestration of the Viennese waltz, expanding its rhythmic and melodic features and helping to popularise dance music in Viennese ballrooms during the Biedermeier era.
