Don Byas

Don Byas was an American jazz tenor saxophonist from Muskogee, Oklahoma, who began his professional career in the 1930s and worked prominently in swing and the early bebop scene. His playing combined a warm, robust tone with a sophisticated harmonic approach that bridged swing phrasing and the emerging bebop language, and he participated in transatlantic jazz exchanges during lengthy periods working in Europe.
