Irène Schweizer is a Swiss jazz and free-improvisation pianist from Schaffhausen who began her career in the late 1960s and became active in the European free and avant-garde jazz scenes. Her work spans solo, duo and ensemble contexts and is characterised by a percussive touch, extended techniques and occasional prepared-piano effects as she explored the intersections of jazz, improvisation and contemporary experimental music while helping to sustain networks for European improvised music.
