East 17 are an English pop boy band formed in Walthamstow, London, in 1991, whose music draws on pop, dance-pop, R&B and hip-hop influences. Their musical style combined upbeat dance production and pop songwriting with contemporary R&B and hip-hop elements, evolving across the 1990s into occasionally more soul-tinged and urban sounds and undergoing several hiatuses and reunions that mirrored changes in the UK pop scene.
