Alvin Curran is an American composer and sound artist, born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1938, who began his career in the 1960s and co-founded the live-electronic ensemble Musica Elettronica Viva while working across contemporary classical, experimental, electroacoustic and soundscape genres. His output blends composed and improvised approaches, combining electronics, field recordings, voice and everyday sounds in chamber pieces, radio works, installations and site-specific performances, often engaging with urban and political contexts and a communal approach to sound.
