H. Owen Reed was an American composer and educator from Texas who began his composing and teaching career in the mid-20th century, writing primarily in the classical tradition for concert band, orchestra and chamber ensembles. He incorporated folk and ethnic musical elements — most prominently Mexican folk material — into tonal, rhythmically driven works for winds and percussion and also produced pedagogical pieces and resources that contributed to the expansion of the concert band repertoire.
