Kosaku Yamada (山田耕筰) was a Japanese composer and conductor from Okayama Prefecture who began his career in the early 20th century after studying in Japan and Europe and worked primarily in Western-style art music, orchestral and vocal repertoire. He fused late-Romantic and early-modern Western idioms with Japanese song traditions and helped establish Western orchestral and operatic forms within Japan's musical life during the Taishō and Shōwa periods.
