Կոմիտաս

Komitas was an Armenian priest, composer and ethnomusicologist born in Kütahya in 1869 who began his career in the late 19th century collecting and transcribing Armenian folk and sacred music. He developed a style that integrated modal folk motifs into choral and liturgical arrangements through meticulous transcription and harmonisation, shaping later Armenian art music and contributing to national cultural identity.
