John Taylor is an English musician from Solihull who co-founded the new wave band Duran Duran in Birmingham in 1978 and began his career in the late 1970s. His funky, melodic bass playing helped define the band's dance-oriented pop and New Romantic sound, and he has pursued solo projects and collaborations spanning pop, rock and electronic styles while remaining associated with the band's role in 1980s MTV-era culture.
