Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf was an Austrian composer and violinist of the Classical period, born in Vienna in 1739 and active across the second half of the 18th century, producing operas, symphonies, concertos and chamber music. He worked in the galant and early Classical idioms, often incorporating programme-like and theatrical elements that reflect the growing public concert culture and stylistic shifts in Central Europe during his lifetime.
