Jan Sandström is a Swedish composer, born in 1954, whose career in contemporary classical music encompasses choral, orchestral, chamber and solo repertoire, including a trombone concerto nicknamed the "Motorbike Concerto" and an expanded choral setting of the Advent carol "Es ist ein Ros entsprungen". His music often juxtaposes tonal and consonant textures with modern dissonance and extended techniques, blending lyrical choral writing with orchestral colour and occasional theatrical gestures that are representative of late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century Scandinavian composition.
