Ric Ocasek was an American singer-songwriter and record producer from Baltimore who began his career in the early 1970s and became associated with new wave and power pop through his work with the band The Cars. His music combined concise, hook-driven songwriting with rock and synthesiser textures, and he also worked as a producer and solo artist, contributing to the crossover of late 1970s rock into 1980s pop and new wave aesthetics.
