Harold Arlen was an American composer and songwriter born in Buffalo, New York, who began his career in the 1920s writing popular songs and composing for Broadway and Hollywood. Drawing on blues, jazz and Tin Pan Alley traditions, his melodies entered the Great American Songbook and featured prominently in mid-20th-century American theatre and film.
