Johann David Heinichen was a German Baroque composer and music theorist born in Krössuln in 1683 who studied in Leipzig and Italy before serving at Central European courts and working in Vienna during the early 18th century. His music and writings reflect the Italianate concertato and operatic influences of the late Baroque—ranging from orchestral concertos and chamber music to liturgical compositions—and he contributed to theorising basso continuo and compositional practice of his time.
