The Jazztet are an American jazz sextet formed in New York City in 1959, initially active in the late 1950s and early 1960s before reforming in later decades and associated with the hard bop and post-bop movements. Their music combined tightly arranged horn lines and written compositions with small-group improvisation, emphasising concise melodies and ensemble interplay as they moved from hard bop roots toward more structured compositional approaches that contributed to developments in small-group jazz.
