Josh White

Josh White was an American singer and guitarist from Greenville, South Carolina, who began performing professionally in the 1930s and worked across blues, folk and gospel traditions. Known for blending Delta-influenced blues, spirituals and urban folk into refined acoustic arrangements, he moved between solo performances, radio and theatre and played a visible role in mid-20th-century cultural and civil rights contexts, later encountering scrutiny during McCarthy-era investigations.
