Serge Koussevitzky

Sergei Kusevitsky was a Russian-born classical conductor and double-bassist who began his career in Russia in the late 19th century and later served as music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from the 1920s to the 1940s. He championed contemporary composers and expanded the orchestral repertoire through commissions, premieres and programming that fostered cultural exchange between Russia and the United States.
