Walter Zimmermann is a German composer born in 1949 who began his career in the 1970s and is associated with experimental and minimalist strands of contemporary classical music. His work blends minimalist processes, serial and other experimental techniques with fragments of folk-song and popular music, evolving from early academic experiments towards sparse, process-driven and interdisciplinary compositions situated within German contemporary music circles.
