Jerry Goldsmith was an American composer from Los Angeles who began his career in radio and television in the 1950s and went on to compose extensively for film and television, specialising in orchestral and cinematic music. His work ranged from traditional symphonic scoring to experiments with electronic textures and unconventional instrumentation, evolving across decades to encompass science fiction, action and drama soundtracks and shaping the sonic language of genre filmmaking.
