Symphony No. 3 is the third symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1896. Musically it is a sprawling late-Romantic orchestral work characterised by vast orchestration, the incorporation of vocal forces within its movements and a wide-range progression from dense, brooding textures to pastoral and hymn-like passages, reflecting Mahler's expansion of symphonic form and his preoccupation with nature and metaphysical themes in his middle-period output.
