La boîte à joujoux is a ballet originally written as a piano score by Claude Debussy in 1913 for children. Musically it employs Debussy's late-impressionist harmonic palette with toy-like motifs, modal and pentatonic inflections and transparent textures, and it sits within his late-career output as a pictorial, programme-oriented work created on the eve of the First World War.
