Piano Sonatas, D840 & D960

Album by Franz Schubert & Jean‐Marc Luisada

Piano Sonatas, D.840 and D.960 are piano sonatas by Franz Schubert, composed in 1825 and 1828 respectively. They exemplify Schubert's late piano style, characterised by expansive formal spans, long-breathed lyrical writing, rich and adventurous harmony and contrasts between energetic outer movements and inward, reflective slow movements, and occupy a late-period position that points toward greater structural breadth in his piano output.
