Symphony no. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra & Myung-Whun Chung

Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902 and premiered in 1904. The late-Romantic orchestral work is written for a large orchestra and is characterised by stark brass fanfares, intricate counterpoint and an extended slow movement for strings and harp, and it marks Mahler's shift toward purely orchestral writing following his earlier song-influenced symphonies.
